The Cicadas are Coming 🔗

When I first moved from Colorado to Maryland, I was amazed by the lightning bugs. (We didn't have lightning bugs in Colorado. Just lightning. And bugs.) I was also.. amazed.. yes, I suppose that's the word.. by the 17-year cicadas, which made our first summer in Maryland quite loud (and buggy).

The 17-year cicadas rise up from the ground every 17 years to do two things: mate and annoy humans.

And the 17-year cicadas are back, or will be in mid-May. Lots of 'em. Should be a crunchy good time. The Baltimore Sun published a humorous look in this article, which was written from the perspective of one Joe Cicada. In fact, the Sun has a whole section devoted to the cicada, full of numerous articles such as this one describing the many ways cicadas can be eaten. Umm.. I'm not so sure they taste like chicken. Think I'll pass on that one.
